I hope everyone had a great fourth of July weekend! It was HOT here in Boston, but I was able to make it to the beach for one day and dunk my body in the ice cold ocean water. It is a love hate relationship.

I know some of you have been asking to see our first dance, so here it is!

We took lessons at Ballroom in Boston and really loved working with Lilia. Lilia made us feel comfortable and confident and she allowed us to add our own moves and creativity to the dance. Even if you do not plan to do a choreographed first dance, taking lessons with your partner is a very cool experience and you will connect on a totally different level. Keep a look out for groupons and special deals online, they come up often! Enjoy!

Our wedding trailer. Byt the amazing Rachel Globe.

See you next week for some awesome workout videos!!

Are your triceps feeling jiggly?

photo (11) It always happens. The time between Christmas and New Years where people start to slack at the gym. My class numbers slow down and then BOOM come the New Year the number of students in my classes sky rocket and people are back at it. I myself have been eating more "sweets" than normal, and my workout schedule has been all over the place... so really no schedule. This is partly due to the fact that a lot of my classes have been cancelled due to the holiday and new year.

I just got back from lunch with my mom and future sister in law. I got a salad nicoise, actually one of the best salad nicoise I have ever had. And then we split the masterpiece featured above. We didn't even know where to start! It was huge, so we didn't end up finishing it, but it was good. It was filled with vanilla and raspberry ice cream and some kind of vanilla cakey stuff.  I also had a cup of peppermint tea. YUM.

Here is a video to get you back into the groove. Lets target those triceps, and get rid of the jiggle in time for the new year. On Friday I will be posting a full body workout to get you ready for your New Years little black dress!

motivation to workout

I told myself I would wake up this morning and give myself an awesome workout. I got up, but was so NOT motivated. At that moment I wanted a personal trainer. I wanted someone to tell me what to do and how many reps. So I thought, "how about I watch my videos!" I know it may sound weird, but I did it, and I totally got my workout on!  Thank you Sweat With Lauren Hefez. I sometimes take it for granted that I workout for a living. Going to the gym is my job. I forget what it is like to workout on your own and to motivate yourself. It's not easy, and making it part of your daily routine takes work. So I commend you. Keep it up!

I started with the Best arm workout, into the 5 minute abs series

then came the butt workout

and I completed my workout with how to get a beautiful back and my own quick plank series.

After watching the videos I have been inspired to create more butt/abs/ and arm series when I get home. Those of you who take my classes are used to a more fast paced series, so I am thinking of doing more of those. If you have any other requests please let me know. I hope my videos can continue to inspire you to workout, get your juices pumping, and take you out of your " I don't feel like working out" rut! Off to eat a warm baguette!

Are you Fit to Fly?

SetFLY! A couple of days ago I was invited to participate in a training at the Reebok headquarters for a class called Jukari Fit to Fly. Reebok and Cirque du Soleil have combined their strengths to create this FUN and amazing workout. When I say fun, I really mean it. You are flying through the air, swinging, sweating, laughing, and performing all at the same time. The FUN element makes you forget about all the working you are really doing. Today, two days later, I am still sore. My lats, back, abs, and oh man my butt!

The FlySet is the first piece of fitness equipment to combine 360 degrees of movement with suspension. Not only is there a jump/fly series but there is also a mat strength series you can do using both the bar and the leg straps.

Here is a video from our training:

[youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T59ItqH4mW8&w=560&h=315] I really hope to see Jukari popping up in gyms. The only reason why I think gyms would hesitate is because the equipment is not the easiest to set up. There would need to be some overhead installation in order to get the suspension. I will keep you posted on the powerful future of Jukari!

Your personal massage therapist 24/7... for $20

OK, so maybe 'your personal massage therapist 24/7 for $20' is too good to be true, but I consider my foam roller my massage therapist. I can not always afford a $100 massage, so the foam roller is the next best thing. We have a love/hate relationship, but after quality time with the roller I feel GREAT! What is a foam roller? If you are not familiar with a foam roller picture a pool noodle, just larger and more dense. By using your own body weight against the roller you can soothe tight fascia (myofascia release method) and help release tight muscles. Myofacia is made up of muscles and facia (connective tissue located just below the skin). Sometimes the fascia and the underlying muscle tissue can become stuck together and the result is reduced flexibility, soreness, pain, restricted range of motion.  It is a bit painful when you start to foam roll, like a deep tissue massage, but soon your body will really start to love the feeling. The foam roller will help increase blood flow and circulation, make you feel more open, and help you break down those tight fibers and scar tissue.

Watch the video below to learn how to use a foam roller:

When? How often? I do not really follow any rule on this. Just foam roll when you feel like it. Before a workout, after a workout, you can do it every day if you wish.  If I find a sore spot I will work out that area until it feels a little less tender. Each body is different, test it out and do what feels right for you. Some spots will be more sensitive than others, that does not mean to shy away from them, rather work through the tenderness.  Experiment with the foam roller and I bet you can hit more muscles groups that you thought. Let me know how your next foam rolling session goes!
