FAGE yogurt...

fage

fage

my pick for best plain greek non-fat yogurt.  This yogurt is delicious and you would think you were eating full fat yogurt due to the creamy taste and puddling like texture. I have always pronounced the name incorrectly until I read the side of the container "pronounced Fay-Yeh"...mmm I still think I pronounce it wrong.

Rarely do I eat plain greek yogurt without any umph. Try some of these additions next time you want a satisfying, yet light on the stomach, breakfast, snack, treat, or just something nutritious and delicious!

- plain yogurt

- walnuts (I like to break them up) or sliced almonds

- blue berries ( or sometimes I do green pears, called Anjou pears)

- apples

- cinnamon

If you are easing into the distinct plain greek yogurt taste you may choose to add some agave nectar or honey.

PB vs Almond Butter

almond

almond

I used to be an organic unsalted peanut butter JUNKIE! I would go through a container... let's just say I go through a container fast.  But I have ventured out (thanks to the recommendation from a client) and have turned to almond butter... it is wonderful.

I feel that I need less to satisfy my cravings.  So now my curiosity has me thinking about the nutritional differences between peanut and almond butter. Lets check it out!

I am going to compare Organic Unsalted Trader Joes PB and Raw Creamy Unsalted Almond Butter.

Some nutritional differences are...

1.  Almond butter has fewer calories per spoon full, yet more total fat compared to PB.

2.  Almond butter has less saturated fat.

3.  Peanut butter has more protein.

4.  Almond butter has more calcium.

Almond butter contains omega-3  fatty acids while peanut butter contains omega-6 fatty acid.  Our body can not make these fatty acids on their own, thus we must get them from our diet.

Enjoy and keep dancing!

Thanksgiving treats

When it comes to dessert, my family is intense. We LOVE our food... and dessert is always a must.  There are so many options come Thanksgiving, and I never know which way to steer. So I decided to compare some popular pies... (serving size: 1/6 of an 8" of a pie) *Please note I am sure different brands offer different nutritional content, this is just based on ONE source. Thanks!

oats

Every morning I start my day with Quaker Old Fashioned Oats. They are my favorite! My staple add on is cinnamon and if I have them, ill throw in some blueberries and slivered almonds.

While reading the "Sweet and Savory" recipe from Yum Sugar  the "savory" part kind of threw me off.  I am so used to the "sweet" taste in my oatmeal... hmmm sharp cheddar, chives and eggs in oatmeal??? Could be an interesting meal.

high fructose corn syrup.. name change!

Regardless of your thoughts on the consumption of high fructose corn syrup you should take note of the recent name change to corn sugar. The Corn Refiners Association has applied for permission to use this name on all food labels (this could take up to two years to pass).  Advertisements have already started using the new Corn Sugar name. Be aware, check your labels, and know what you are putting in your body!
