I recently met with a person who has quickly become one of my favorite people, Astrid Bengtson, aka Posture Queen.
Why The Ice Bucket Challenge?
Earlier this week I told a student of mine that I thought her "Ice Bucket Challenge" (that I saw on Facebook) was the most creative. After seeing her and many others pour a bucket of ice water on top of their heads I googled ALS. ALS is horrible scary disease that really destroys everything except your mind. You are as sharp as ever, but your body is not at all what it used to be.
The student of mine that did the ice bucket challenge told me WHY she did it. She went to the same High School as Pete Frates. She told me his story, how he went pro baseball in Europe, married a beautiful and loving woman, and whose life took a huge turn when diagnosed with ALS. I went home and did more research on Pete and his fund.
His story really moved me.
So if this Ice Bucket Challenge hits you, I hope you will know WHY you are doing it. I love this cause and I love how awareness of ALS is spreading. #StrikeOutALS
